PACKING

First things first, we need to pack wisely. But before we even start, take a deep breath and relax because I have a solution to your problem. The first thing you need is containers to store all your beauty products. If you’re travelling carry-on only, these are essential!

I love these ones because the silicone bottles are easy to squeeze and you can get every last drop of product you need! Of course they are refillable and perfect for packing shampoos, conditioners, styling creams, and gels.

Even if you’re checking a bag, I personally like to keep my beauty products close – just in case the airline loses my suitcase *knock on wood*.

FRIENDLY REMINDER!!

Most airlines have a limit of 1L of liquids total in your carry-on, so we need to be strategic here; let’s get into the categories of products you will need to keep your hair tamed.

1. Cleansers: I usually bring multiple cleansers because I know I’ll be washing my hair frequently, but if youre sticking to one shampoo, pick an all purpose shampoo that is cleansing but won’t strip your hair. Fill this bottle to the top because you mustn’t forget to double cleanse! so that you’re not over-stripping your hair of its natural moisture.

Optional: I recommend bringing a color shampoo, such as purple shampoo for blonde hair to keep your color in check.

PRO-TIP: Mix the purple shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo so that the purple shampoo doesn’t dry out your hair.

2. Moving on to conditioners: I always bring multiple conditioners that cater to my hair needs. Bring a protein conditioner, a moisture conditioner, and a leave-in conditioner. If you don’t want to bring all three, a leave-in conditioner is an excellent two-in-one product and perfect for when you’re at the beach or pool.

3. It’s time to pack your stylers: What you specifically should pack depends on your hair needs/desired result. You can see this blog for more information on that here.

Personally, I want to pack a moisturizing styling gel that will give me multiple benefits – bonus if it gives UV protection!

I love a liquid gel with good hold – they’re the easiest to even distribute throughout the hair (which is crucial in humidity/for a long lasting style)

On the topic of longevity, let’s talk about some easy tips to keep your hair looking great throughout your trip.

HAIR MAINTENANCE

Don’t forget to pack your Bonnets on Board!!! Use a silk scarf or bonnet to protect your hair while sleeping AND flying. Airplane air is notoriously dry and can be the absolute worst on our hair and also our skin.

Always carry a satin hair scrunchie with you to keep your hair in check throughout the day.

Make sure you’re wearing a hat or scarf while out in the sun to protect your hair from the harsh rays.

If you’re swimming, wet your hair with tap water before getting in the pool or ocean, and apply lots of leave-in conditioner or simply a hair oil like coconut oil to prevent it from absorbing too much salt or chlorine.

Keep a hair serum on deck to smooth frizz as it comes!

I have a whole blog on how to refresh your curls here but remember instead of re-washing/wetting your whole head, you can refresh wonky curls with some water and your gel!
