DO'S & DONT'S Of Towel
Drying Curly Hair!

Do you towel dry your curly hair? SHOULD you?

In this post, we’re sharing towel drying DO’S and DONT’S, How-To “Plop” your curls, and best practices for healthy hair and scalp.

First thing you need to know is not all towels are created equal. Terry cloth is the typical weave on most towels, including microfibre towels. If you have sensory sensitivities, these are the towels that also feel super rough to touch. The looped stitching can be absorbent but also  abrasive on your hair, causing frizz and potentially breakage. I don’t use any of those on my hair, ever.

So, what’s the secret to successful towel drying? The key is to use the right towel, one that is ultra-smooth like the Perfect Haircare towel. It feels silky smooth, so this is gentle on your curls while still being absorbent enough to dry your hair quickly, cutting down dry time by up to 70%, minimizing frizz. Best part is, it’s also big enough to fit all my hair AND my large head.

Once you have your towel, it’s important to use it correctly. Following the proper techniques can actually lead to faster styling, more volume, and softer curls – who doesn’t want that? Plus, it’s a great alternative to blow drying, especially in warm climates or if you want to avoid using heat on your hair.

Here’s the Do’s and Don’ts for Towel Drying Your Curls:

DO:

  • Add your Prep and Style products to your freshly washed hair before towel drying. This will help your curls absorb the moisture and product they need for healthy, bouncy curls.
  • Gently scrunch your curls with your microfiber towel to remove excess water. Avoid rough rubbing or wringing, as this can damage your hair.
  • Use a “plopping” technique to help your curls retain their shape.

DON’T:

  • Towel dry your hair before applying the product. This will absorb the moisture and product you’re trying to add back into your curls, leading to dry, lifeless curls.
  • Use a rough, ordinary towel on your curls. Stick with a smooth, microfiber towel to avoid damaging your hair and creating frizz.
  • Rub or wring your curls aggressively with.

Now that you know how to properly towel dry your hair, remember not to keep your hair wet for long and please don’t go to sleep with wet hair. You got this. And if you need more visuals, see the videos below!
