Refreshing your curly style should be easy. I am a “less is more” type of curly when it comes to refreshing, because I have a “more is more” philosophy on my wash day. The more effort and care you put into setting your curls, the longer they will last you. But, life happens and this is how I like to approach refreshing my curls based on how it looks/feels!
There are a few scenarios & quick methods I do depending on what my hair looks like:
If you are a morning shower person, this will take you no additional time. Take a steamy shower for 2-5 minutes with your BONNET on. The steam in the air will add (a little humidity) and hydration to your hair to reactivate the hydrogen bonds in your hair. This will wake up the curls. Perfect for that fluff and go when sometimes curls get wonky at war in your sleep.

Alternatively, if you have a facial steamer, turn that on and direct the steam into your hair for a couple minutes, i like to do 2 minutes on each side of my head and fluff out the root while doing this. The hair will start to expand as it absorbs some of that hydration. I recommend following up this method with a hair oil/serum to lock in the hydration and add some shine as needed.
We all know that water is the ultimate hydration? Why is it that if we get caught in the rain or even the snow our hair freaks out and gets frizzy. This is because the hair is already dry and the hydration shocks your texture.
When needing to add moisture, control it by adding a moisture cream to your hands diluted with water and smooth over your curls in a praying hands motion. For extra definition, pick out curls to finger coil.

In your wash day and depending on your hair needs, you should have already gotten a good balance of moisture/protein. The protein will stay in the hair better than moisture that can evaporate, so I only add some cream for the moisture.
Air dry or diffuse!
This is for those needing extra longevity out of their curl definition. If your hair is super soft and well hydrated, you don’t need any moisture first, all you need to do is add a stronghold
This is what I do when my curls need a little polishing. Using a little hair oil/serum, I smooth the top layer of my hair and tuck in flyaways by twirling them into a curl. This helps to smooth them away, protect them, and add a shiny finish to the hair.
